The story behind the Kurdish Colours (Flag) and the number 21:
The Kurdish flag, known by Kurds around the world both in and out of the diaspora, features three colours (red, white and green) and a bright yellow sun with 21 rays of equal size. Each colour of the flag represents different aspects of Kurdish identity and history — red for the ongoing struggle for freedom and dignity, white for peace and unity, and green for the natural beauty of Kurdistan’s landscapes. The significance of the number 21 carries many meanings, but most prominently refers to the 21 rays on the sun that’s featured on the centre of the flag and to Newroz, the Kurdish New Year celebrated on the 21st of March.
